Default MDS Fail safe ????

With MDS, in the event something goses wrong, is thier a fail safe mode that will allow the 5.7 to run on all eight cylinders?

I'm not fully up to speed on how MDS works, I'm so happy I don't have it on my 06 2500 5.7

I rented a 07 quad cab hemi with the mds ( my 06 is a reg cab with topper) to move a fridge and passengers and what a pos the truck was, gutluss and used twice the flue of my 06 non mds hemi.

Granted truck was a rental, but I see no perks to mds.

Now my girl friend want's her own Ram ..

Well, it has to meet certain critera to be in MDS, i think what your asking is can it get stuck in mds? no it cannot.

I dont know why it felt gutless to you, same motor as your truck, MDS does not cut down on power when not running. all that would change is the extra weight of the cab. and having a personal rig with MDS, and a work truck without. i can tell you it does use less fuel with the MDS

The rental felt "gutless" because it's a quad cab compared to your reg cab...along with all the cargo you had. Why didn't you just use your truck?

The perk of having MDS is better gas mileage...common sense would say if you shut down 4 of the injectors you'll use less gas. It's only active during light engine load and throttle.

my truck has a topper, as a for the LBS issue, a quad can 1500 4x4 and a reg cab 2500 5.7 6sp manual4x4 are pretty close in whieght anyways.

I'm glad to know thiers no way a mds can fail in 4cy mode, I was on the highway, with lots of hills, I was notextream driving.

I doubt your avarage size fridge is going to add much wind rissitance or whieght, I did have five passenegrs in the quad cab.

There's part of it also, sticks have less parasitic power loss and usually "feel" faster...hell my g/f's corolla feels quick with some good shifting but it's not. Slushbox trannies also weigh more..

I'm a big fan of my MDS Hemi.... There's a lot of people on here that say they hate it, but they mostly hate it b/c of the way it sounds with aftermarket exhaust. As stated above, the MDS only kicks in under light engine load... It pumps on all 8 when you need it. Not to mention, if it does fail, that's under the lifetime drivetrain warranty on new purchases
