Same thing happens here. I finally got tired of washing the truck after each fill up and just start slowing down the pump around $55. It hasn't overflowed since I started doing that.

Since they fixed mine, I can fill full throttle and continue to fill afterwardsat any rate. I have not had once drip hit the truck since they fixed it. Works like it should. I can fill unattended while washing the windows and no longer worry.

Get them to fix it.

 

my work truck does that all the time, and it was becasue the breather tube gets plugged up, it basically vapor locks, and backfires on my, could be empty or full doesnt matter. It took a whole new neck setup to fix it.

Also, try cramming the pump nozzle as far in as it it will go

 

Same thing happened back when I bought my '04.
Had it in twice to be repaired before they finally just replaced the whole tank on the 3rd visit.
Haven't had a problem since.
