Default Question about warranty.

My truck is about 200 miles overdue for it's first(for me) oil change. I would love to do it myself for convenience sake but with only 11,000 miles I worry about it voiding my Factory warranty it something were to happen to the engine. The salesman told me I could do them myself it I save the recipts but we all know they just tell you what you want to hear. I can see the BS now.. "I know you BOUGHT the oil on the 23rd but I dont know WHEN you actually changed it."

I could wait until after Christmas and get it in to the Dealerbut I'd like to go out of town tomorrow if I can. I tried the search funtion. What do you guys think?

Thanks in advance for the advice.

You should be fine. People have been doing it for years and had no problem. I would say that if you have an engine problem and the dealership gives you issues you need to file a complaint and find a honest dealer. Most of the people on this board (including me) have changed their own oil and even switched to synthetic. Only a crooked dealer (barring they could prove you screwed up the oil change) would try to screw you over on that.

I would recommend you have it changed by a fast lube or a Dealership and get a printed document with the current miles. If you can't prove you have done your part and kept up with the recommended services you could have a hard time with any out of warranty goodwill claims or extended powertrain warranty claims. It would just avoid a fight in the long run.

I've been writing the miles on the reciepts...you could even go a step further and take a pic of the reciept next to your odometer. I wouldn't worry about it though..

That brings up another question. Would using synthetic oil have any impact on the warranty?
Also if you use a lube place they keep pretty good records on your oil changes, I'm sure they would print out all of your activity if you needed it for evidence.

Whatever you do don't bring it here....if you're going to have it done i'd stick to the dealerships if i were you.

Default RE: Question about warranty.

This is staright out of the warranty manual that came in the glove box when your truck was new. The 1st and last paragraphs sorta contradict each other though. If you do it yourself, KEEP ALL RECIEPTS.

-- As the truck owner, you are responsible for the
performance of the
required maintenance listed
in your owner's manual
. DaimlerChrysler recommends
that you retain all receipts covering maintenance
on your truck, but DaimlerChrysler cannot
deny warranty solely for the lack of receipts or for
your failure to ensure the performance of all scheduled
maintenance.
-- You are responsible for presenting your truck to a
Chrysler, Dodge or Jeep dealer as soon as a problem
exists. The warranty repairs should be completed in
a reasonable amount of time, not to exceed
30 days.
-- As the truck owner, you should also be aware that
DaimlerChrysler may deny your warranty coverage if
your truck or a part has failed due to abuse, neglect,
improper maintenance or unapproved modifications.

Link to read warranty is half way down middle of the page....>> http://www.dodge.com/en/owners/

Quickie lubes are some of the worst places to have your oil changed. they constantly screw things up.

You will be fine doing it yourself, or take a stealership, dont go to jiffylube
