HI EVERYONE, I WAS HOPEING TO GET SOME INFO ON GAS MILAGE. I HAVE A BRAND NEW 2007 RAM BIG HORN WITH THE 4.7 4X4 WITH 1500 MILES ON IT. I JUST BOUGHT IT A MOUNTH AGO, WHEN I FIRST BOUGHT IT, IT WAS TELLING ME I WAS GETTING 15 TO 16 MILES TO THE GALLON. SINCE I HAVE BEEN UP NORTH AND BACK A COUPLE TIMES AND DROVE IT AROUND THE CITY IT IS NOW AT 10 MILES TO THE GALLON WTF THATS NO GOOD. SO I AM WONDERING IF ITS NOT ACCURATE BECAUSE IT IS NO BROKEN IN YET OR IS THAT WHAT I CAN EXPECT. MY FREIND HAS A 2005 RAM WITH THE HEMI AND HIS SAYS 14. CAN ANYONE TELL ME SOMETHING GOOD PLEASE

as far as gas mileage... it is probaly the winter blend fuel up north that killen ya... but also going by the overhead... it is not very acurate....

 

do pen and paper, everyo time you fill up, divide the miles by how many gallons you pumped in. thats your overall mpg. thats the best way to do it if you want "accuracy."

 

The winter blend is probably hitting you a little, and true, I would not entirely trust the overhead (although it usually shows better than you are really getting) so try pad & paper next couple times you fill up. You should also see a slight improvement after break-in.
Now for the bad news. That Dodge is a heavy truck, especially in a 4x4 flavor. And in my opinion the Quad Cab 4x4 should not even be offered without the Hemi. True, as a rule, smaller engines use less gas, but smaller engines being forced to work hard often use more gas than a larger engine with the same workload. Unless it's strictly on the highway on a long trip and keeping the engine speed down at or under the speed limit, I don't think you'll see the same mileage as your friend with the Hemi.
There are some mods that you could do to help your fuel econonmy a bit, and for sure some simple things you, yourself can do while driving to help, but again, I don't think you'll get the mileage he is.

 

I had the 3.7L just before the HEMI, i can back you up on this one The 3.7L used the same amount of gas as my HEMI does now. like my mom said, "Why not have the same mpg with a stronger engine? We're getting the HEMI, honey."

 

sounds like we have the same truck 'cept mine is a thunder road. i now have 4600 miles on mine and have been getting about 13.5 in town and on my only highway trip i got 18. i haven't driven it much in the last month as i've been driving my cherokee but the overhead has dropped. our commander dropped from 15.6 to 14.4 in the last 2 months also.
give it time and ease up on the pedal and you should be ok.

 

I get about 12-12.5 mpg city regardless of how heavy my foot is. 4.7 6-spd RC, so you're probably about right on your QC

 

How many miles do you have? And were you getting that before the winter blend fuels? With my QC I easily get 13 and with a light foot I can achieve 14. And thats 75% city, stop and go.

 

2500 ish miles on it. I've been getting about the same mileage since I bought it. I just filled it this weekend, so I guess we'll see if they've gone to a winter blend at the station I use.

I've broke 13 once, but normally is mid 12s.
