Coopers
FYI I got some new Cooper Zeon LTZ's 275 60 R20 from Discount Tire Bargain today. I am highly satisfied with them as they are great in the snow and we have alot right now in snowy Colorado(which is a good thing)! The GY HP's served a good life so it was time to upgrade; what a difference. They hooked up very well just in 2wd I will test the 4wd tomorrow. The Goodyears always compacted with snow but these clean out very well. I will possibly take a picture when I get my new wheels also and when the snow clears a little so I can clean them. Later...
yeah I've always had good luck with Cooper tires...had a few sets of the Cooper SST (i think thats the ones) that were pretty good in the mud and what not and now i have a set of Cooper's on both my 20" and 22" wheels...prolly wont ever buy anything else but Coopers from now on
I have mine on order. They will be here next Friday. For some reason Discount tire here in NC doesn't carry them. Go figure..........I hope they are as good as everyone says. It's gonna be almost $1000 after mounting and balancing.
When I was looking for tires alot of people recommended the Coopers. If I hadn't had good luck with Toyos before, those definitely would have been my choice. Glad you like them, and lets see some pics!!
Guitar, glad to hear there are some tires that are decent in snow even in 2wd... I may be moving to CO (Denver metro area) next year for grad school but my truck is only 2WD. I have been really bummed that i may have to sell it, thinking that I HAD to get a 4x4. I would really hate to do that and it would be my last resort.
You think my truck would be okay with some good tires, such as your Coopers, and a few 50lb sandbags in the bed by the wheel-wells?
Let me know... I dont want to give up my baby!

You don't HAVE to have a 4x4 just b/c you're in a snowy area. I've never had a 4x4 truck, and have never had a problem with it, especially around the city. It's the rural area that causes concern sometimes, but as long as you know how to drive in the snow, and have enough weight in the bed, again I've never had an issue with snow. Yes, I know it says I'm from SC in my profile, but my job has me traveling all over east of the Mississippi, so I tend to see a lot of snow in the winter, especially the 2 times I had to go to Maine last year.. Yeash..
As far as cooper's go. Had 4 set's of them on my old Sierra, loved'em, and that will be what gets put on my truck when the stocks are worn out, well maybe possibly before. The one's that are on my truck now are horrible, just in the rain. I'm really looking forward to getting rid of them...

That's wierd.. i have only had coopers once... they were at's and they were on my 96 ram and they wore out reaaaly really fast!! so i refused to buy them again... maybe i just had a crappy set.... btw pcollins... just because there is snow doesnt mean you need 4x4 my ol 96 got through the snow just fine.... once you learn how to drive in the snow its not a problem at all...

As a follow up to my original post... Good grief! These tires are awesome. I went up into the mountains today with blowing snow advisories and snow drifting. These tires were night and day! They dig in and they stop very well in snow pack. Whoever buys these will be very happy! I gave them a very valid test in real mountain snow! My wife was with me and complimented on the great purchase. Tires like this are a necessity in the mountains plus they just look cool on the truck. They are vastly superior to the stock tires. I didn't think it would be that much, but wow!
Pcollins, I understand your concern with 2wd. In the Denver metro area you should be ok. However, the last 2 years we have got alot of snow so going up some of these mountain roads and passes it gets a little hairy but I even tested today in 2wd and the truck did well. CODOT does a good job on the highways. The only problem is there is alot of snow drifting in the mountains and if it gets a little deep in spots you may sit and spin. I wouldn't sell your truck yet. Just get out here and see. If you are a skier and go to the mountains on snowy days you may have to consider only due to the incline of some hills. Usually the grade is only 8-10% though. So, just wait and then see. Plus the summers you won't need 4x4 and it is awesome out here then too.
