Default sludge

I own a 2002 Dodge Ram 1500 , with the 4.7 engine. Over the past six months i have had to replace the oil pump twice due to extreme sludge. when i have taken it to my local dealership (breeden dodge of fort smith, ar) their explanation is that i haven't been changing the oil enuff. I am in the forklift industry and am a service manager. I do know enuff to keep up withmy oil changes. I heave faithfully keep it changed every 3000 miles since the vehicle was brand new. over the past few months i have done it at 1500 miles. I am using Castor 10w30 with the sludge protection. what explantion can you give me to why this keeps happening. i have changed oil brands several time to make sure that wasn't the issue. PLEASE ADVISE.

ps. if you are in my area be aware of breeden dodge and there service advisors they will leteraly call you a lier without so many words.

Maybe they've been inter-"breeden" too much. I've heard of an "engine flush". Not sure what it's supposed to do, but it sounds like it oughta clean some of the gunk out. Did you have those same inter-breeders replace both pumps? If so, I would suspect they didn't really change it. Doesn't seem likely a pump could fail in only six months, even if there was severe sludge.

Yeah, Breeden is pretty bad. We were going to move to Fort smith back in 2000 when my father was hired as a senior engineer at Baldor motors and drives, but we ended up not moving (thank god). That is where my father bought his 98 1500 that burned to the ground...

There's something else going on here, then. Wrong oil? Very short trips? The mystery deepens...

Yea, don't know what's up with that. I'm on like four or five Dodge sites and three Jeep sites. That's a hell of a lot of 4.7 owners and I can't recall oil pumps being an issue with this motor nor have I ever heard of a "sludge" problem...

Usually the dealer would be right about your oil change interval...since that's the number one reason for sludge build up. If you bought it used maybe the previous owner didn't change the oil much causing a build up....the sludge has to go somewhere so eventually it breaks off and gets stuck.

I swear by this stuff...it works great but you have to follow the directions carefully. http://www.auto-rx.com/

Sorry to hear about your problem..But can you tell us what kind of sludge you're talking about. Is it the brownish mayonaise type, that's usually underneath the oil filler cap? Or something else?

It could be a bad head gasket, the coolant and oil combining to form chocolate milk...
