Default 02 Ram 4.7 Change to 06-08 electric engine cooling fan??

Ok looking for info on changin out the Clutch engine Cooling fan to an electric like is on the A/C condenser.

I know this swap will improve towing power and also help gas milage some.

My issue is I cant find any that just go in the truck. No issue with fabing one in just wanted to know if the 06-08 fan could be installed in an 02???

Thanks for the info !!!

I put a Flex-A-Lite 180 Extreme in my '04 Hemi.Although it is a "generic" model, it went in with no fabrication and fit right inside the stock shroud perfectly. About an hour install in the driveway, never having done one before...

This sounds like a better option, probably cheaper than buying the fan from the stealership, unless you can get a deal on a wrecked one. Can I ask if the fan is wired to run all the time like the stock clutch fan or is it operated by a thermoswitch?

I just read this
http://www.hemitruckclub.com/Install...%20Extreme.htm

It appears that there is a control module and a thermoswitch that mounts on the fins of the radiator which seems super easy. The only thing I am confused about is where the shroud is suppose to be cut at, a picture would be worth a thousand words at this point so maybe someone will chime in with a pic by pic instruction manual or just a single pic of that particular part of the installation.

It comes with a little pin looking thermometer that goes through the radiator fins. Has a little control box with a dial **** to set when you want it to come on & shut off. I installed a 180 degree thermostat at the same time and set the fan for about 170 degrees.
I don't remember cutting the shroud, but it's been about a year, so maybe. The only thing I recall is drilling some holes in it for screws. Some ditch the stock shroud, but then you have to remount the coolant and washer bottles.
They also make a manual override switch for the dash as an option. I didn't get it, but I'm thinking about adding it. If off-roading in extreme mud or deep water you could kill your fan so as to not suck crud into your radiator, etc.

Since it looks like you tow a lot with your truck i'd leave the clutch fan in. Yes you'll free up some power but a clutch fan pulls a lot more cfm then a electric fan canat anything but idle....which is what you want with towing. I dunno about Dodge but with GM you can't evenget a HD truck with electric fans from the factory because of this...but they have them in the lighter duty trucks from like 04+. Just something to think about..

As far as the fans you should be able get a universal electric fan that fits your radiator..

I dont do that much towing really more just normal street driving. I do tow my race car to the track about 1-2 times per month in the summer but its only a 45 min. run to a max of 3 hours.
Im thinking the black majic fan will do well I used it on a lifted f-150 on 40" tires with no issues in traffic or on the high way.
I guess its worth the $$ if it works and picks up a bit in the MPG dept since gas is an arm and 1 leg now. Id love to see 1-2 mpg thats what I got out of the f-150.

The stock fan does not run all the time... Once you get to 40 mph or so, it freewheels, reducing drag on the engine. The electric fan comes on only when the controller tells it to. I set mine to come on at roughly the previous "normal" temp (I also put in a 180 t-stat). The new "normal" is just over 1/4 on the gauge (was just under 1/2).
