I have noticed what appears to be seepage/leakage of power steering fluid from either the reservior (most likely), the hose to the cooler or the steering box. I have 29,900 miles on it, so the 3 year/36,000 mile warranty is still in effect.

But (always a but) I have installed LT285/70R17 tires and cranked the torsion bars 2" to level it out. What are the chances that Dodge will say this may have caused the leakage and voided any warranty? Should it be a steering box, that's big money.

 

The tire size shouldn't matter. I think there's an option from new for that size of tire. My rack was leaking before I did my t-bar crank and seeing as you need an alignment after, I took it in to Dodge, got the rack replaced under warranty and got the alignment done. No questions, no problems.

That being said, the hose clamps they use are total crap. I had my engine swapped out as the old one had 2 collapsed valves and threw a rocker arm. Shortly after bringing it home I noticed I was leaking a lot of power steering fluid. Turns out they forgot to put one clamp on a hose from the cooler to the rack, and the others were leaking despite having clamps. I put some good hose clamps on and it seems to have solved the problem.

 

Typical leak on the Ram. Take it back in and have them replace the clamps and/or hoses. Then be ready to do it again once your warranty runs out. Also if it has leaked bad enough already and the power steering pumpis making noise, make them replace also.

Well that sucks for me. My 03 1500 is also leakingbut I bought it used in Oct. with 76k on it, so it looks like mine will be out of pocket.[sm=boohoo.gif]

 

Before you pay someone to do anything, wipe it all clean, fire it up and turn the wheels back and forth a few times at a stand still. That should help you determine where exactly the leak is. If it's coming from the hoses, go buy some good hose clamps for a few dollars (I only use worm gear style clamps) and that should solve the problem.

 

Yea...steering pump leak is pretty common on these bad boys. I have one myself that I need to address soon.

 

Just replaced all hose clamps on my 2005 ram and that seems to have fixed the problem. The hoses do not turn on the fitting now when you try and twist them.
