I was messing around with my tailgate today because I was board, and noticed a torsion type spring on it. I had thought since I bought it that the tailgate was very light and easy to move up and down for such a large truck. Is this torsion type spring suppose to be on the tailgate? It reminds me of the springs on a trunk to make it easier to open

 

It's a mod. There are several out there that assist in raising and lowering the tail gate.
