Does anyone else have this problem?
when i shift into reverse i hear a nice grinding sound in the tranny. followed by some clicks. i took it to the dealership and they looked at it and said yeah it grinds, yeah dodge knows about it and no there is no fix for it. eh? i have misplaced the printout they gave me detaling what they said but basically it says from year model 04-07 has the same problem and dodge does not have a fix for it.
now it has a new trick. when i reverse out of say my driveway, it jumps out of gear. the indicator shows reverse and then it shows nothing. and it acts like its in neutral. i took it to the dealer this morning and it is going to be over a week before the "transmission guy" can look at it. i ask if it is just the gas trucks that have tranny problems or if HD trucks do to, then they tell me oh its rare they have tranny problems. eh, but i have to wait a week to get it looked at??? hmmmm. so anyway i made an appointment on a day convienent for me and we will see what they have to say this time.

The 1st problem sounds like your shift lever isn't "seating" in the reverse detent, and is slipping into park as you back up, that would make those sounds.
The second one sounds the same, except into reverse.
Be sure that when you are shifting into reverse that you are coming to a full stop before you shift and that you feel it "click" into reverse before you give it any gas. It could be a problem with your reverse gate not engaging properly and that would be what's letting it slip out of that gear.

well aside from a flowmaster this truck is purely stock, and under warranty so i feel a mechanic at the dealer should do some playing with it.
but i really do appreciate any advice you guys and gals give me though. i am getting frustrated with this truck, i thoroughly enjoy it otherwise. i've had it since may and already planned my next dodge
but man this tranny is frustrating.

Dont know if its related but see my post "2008" Dodge Ram on 1-10-8. Same type of grinding , clunking noise that I believe is cause by the "HSA" mode in the traction control system. I will know more about it this weekend and will reply if I learn anything. [/align]

My (and a co-worker's) trucks are both '03s. Both make a small noise that sounds like a motor moving a valve when changing from forward to reverse and vice versa. I guess you could call that a grinding noise, but it is very faint (can't hear it with the windows closed). If that's what you're hearing, it is normal. May be unique to the 545FRE.
