Moving to Germany.....2X4 or 4X4
I have now been living over here in Germany for just over 4 years now. I have a 98 Dakota and yes the roads are very small, especially when you're traveling through towns or cities. It's nothing like driving back in North America. The really good part is traveling on the Autobahns. Besides the German SUV, mostly all the German built cars here are rear wheel drive. I know from experience that you'll have no problems with a 2WD truck. Just remember if you bring a half ton or bigger you just might regret it. Just trying to help.
Since you have been living there for a couple of years, maybe you can help me out. I was wondering how the 401k's in Germany are structured. Are they similar as in the US or are there a lot of differences? Planning to move to Berlin and that's what I have no information about.
I'm resurrecting this old thread because we are moving to Germany in July and I remembered talking about taking a full-size truck (in this thread) a long time ago, there's relevance. I *soooooooo* want to take my truck, but I am going to err on the side of practicality and take the little Honda CR-V, instead. When/if it eventually dies, I'll get something local. My wife is going to sell her Xterra here and buy a new car when we get there (hooray, new stripes...). Last time I was in Germany I was driving a little Mercedes A Class and there were places I STILL felt way too big for!
I can't wait, though. I'm going as a retiree/civilian this time, while my wife gets to put on the uniform and go to work every day.

well i dont see what the problem is, dont they have deliveries to the shops in germany.
of coarse they do and the trucks that do these deliveries make it up and down all these small roads everyday year in year out with no problems
i have had 2 ram 1500s over here in the uk and the roads are quite simular to the roads in germany, sure parking can be a problem but not impossible (except in multistory car parks)
i am off to greece on friday in my truck and the roads are even smaller there, we get around no problem, so if you love your truck as much as most people on the forum "take it ad enjoyit"
