Default 26-34 Gallon Tank Conversion

If this question has been asked and answered, please excuse me. I have a short bed 1500, 26 gallon tank;

We all know gas milage sucks with the Hemi, but has anyone thought of putting the 34 gallon tank on from the 2500?

I have not climbed underneath a 2500 to see if the strap mounts are that much different, but hey another 8 gallons would be nice.

Agreed, I would like to know this also... However, the 26 gallon tank is perfect for me on the long hauls, gas runs out right about when I need to use some facilities anyway, so it kinda works out...

The 34 will fit in a 1500, it is, or at least, was an option.

You also have to have your overhead re-programmed or your MPGs,DTEswill be off.

The owners manual states that short bed 1500 is 26, long bed 1500 is a 35.

2500 short bed is a 34, long bed is a 35.

My assumption here is that the extra 9 gallons on the long bed 1500 would be facing towards the rear axle, not under the cab.

I know theres room under the 1500 short bed for a bigger tank, any 2500 short bed owners want to check the frame strap mounts?

34 gallon tanks remain an option in '08 for the 1500 QC short box. I know, I have one. I have heard that the conversion, if done at a Dodge dealership, can be expensive.

Unless the fit is significantly different for variousyear 3rd Gen.models it should work fine. My 2005 1500 QC, 2WD, SWB, HemiLaramie came with the 34 gallon tank from the factory.

Well I'll be damned. Does it have an extra strap mount?

Thanks in advance.

I don't think it is different although it may be a heavier duty and more secure mounting than the 26 version; I have not really looked at the tanks closely on other trucks.
I suggest that you ask and verify your question with the 'parts man moderator' on this forum. He can answer your question quickly and accurately and probably provide a schematic from Dodge showing all parts and mounting thus saving you time, money and those PO'ed headaches.

Called local Dodge stealership...I mean Dealership today.

They will not do a conversion because it "did not come from the factory like that, and tampering with factory fuel, blah, blah, etc..."

He did look at the schematic, same strap mounts, so I guess I'll be upgrading soon. LOL Thanks guys!
