My truck dyno'd 267 at the tires with a CAI and catback.

That was a 23% loss from the advertised 345 hp at the engine.

 

Back in 2003 right after the 5.7 Hemi came out with Chrysler's rating of 345 hp
GM, Ford, Toyota and Nissan
all complained to SAE (society of automotive engineers)
that they had bought 2003 Rams off the showroom floor
and put the engines on their shaft dynos for SAE rules tests
and found that the 5.7 engine made more of an average of 330 hp
than the rated 345 hp....turned out Dodge was not including a power steering pump and also using a tricky and very severe 'break in' period on the dyno before running the official hp test.

If you use 330 hp instead of the 345 hp
then the drivetrain losses are in line with 'normal' values
and rear wheel rating of 260-285 is understandable.

After the 2003 complaints SAE tightened up the hp testing rules
and required that a trainned and certified SAE member 'observer' be present
to reduce cheating.

 

but my '79 360 was advertised at 150 horse so i'm ahead now by any measure!!

 

I know KRC Performance does them on Hemi's on a pretty regular basis. Check their website. It ain't cheap though, a lot of labor I'm sure. And that's one place I know I couldn't go. My moddin' has slowed down considerably, because up till now, I've done them all myself except for the gears and LSD, but if I finish the intended plan, it leaves me with only the cam (& springs, lifters, retainers & damper that's all part of doing the cam) and a torque converter left. And those are not ones that I am comfortable doing on a $30k truck by myself.

dang, I didnt know the hemi had that much loss through the drive line. even thought I have a manual my stock power to the wheels was 285hp and 545tq (325hp 600tq advertized at the crank). even the auto's are right under that mark by about 5hp and 10lbft. after some software tweaking I know I'm pushing well over 425hp/800lbft at the wheels of my last dyno adventure.

this is still on the stock turbo, injectors, fuel system, and clutch.[8D]

 

This is very disappointing to hear all of this... I would think if I put a stall convertor in it would void my life time warrenty... I have looked into a lot of things to increase the horsepower and fuel economy... But I can not find anything that justifies the money spent...
After all is said I still love my dodge... I jumped on it yesterday for the first time and lite up those heavy 24" tires like they were 15"... I was supprised to see that...
I do have one problem with the truck I have a poping sound coming from my right speaker, I changed the speakers and it is still doing it... What do you think it could be and have you heard of any problems with the radio before... Thanks again for your help
