Default 4.7 Cooling system question

Just changed out my radiator due to a crack in the tank. Everything guage-wise appears to be fine but after a 30 minute ride on the freeway. But when I get home and check under the hood, one side of the radiator is hot and one side feels, not cold, but cooler than I would expect. I checked the radiator hoses and the top one is hot and the bottom is cool. Feeling behind the thermostat housing, itis hot on the block side but cool in the hose.I checked the heater thinking Imight have a bubble but the heater does get warm so Ilooks likeI have flow through there. Oh and I changed out the thermostat about 2 months ago.

Checking in my manual, it doesn't discuss the workings of the system just how to remove and replace. I've looked all over the web for info specific to the 4.7 cooling system.

I'm trying to determine if what I'm getting is normal operating conditions or if I might have something that I missed. A little info on the operation of the cooling system for my truck would help out greatly (direction of flow, thermostat opens and closes as needed, etc.)I would think that both hoses would be warm after a freeway drive, for instance.

Thanks in advance..

Ya, I agree, but I do pull a trailer from time to time and it has been known to overheat a tad. That's why I changed out the thermostat.

It's basically to have a better understanding of how these things work.

It sounds like you have an Air bubble in the System.
Let it Cool down, remove the Rad. cap Start it up and let it run till the T stat opens, you will lose some fulid so keep some water handy to keep it topped off, after a bit you will notice a large drop in fulid after that you should be fine..
