Default Bigger tires on stock 17 in rims

I am looking at getting my truck lifted pretty soon and was curios to know if i could run a bigger tire on the stock rims? I would like to go with a 315/70/r17 but i am not sure if this is possible due to the rim width and backspacing, any help would be much appreciated.

Thank you.

You don't say what year, but the stockers on my '03 were 17x8, probably with 0 offset. Not sure about the backspace... guessing it'll be in the 4 1/2" range. A 315/70 may be OK with an 8" rim width, but that may be the low end of the compatibility range. That overall diameter is a good bit bigger than stock. What rearend does it have? You may take a sizable hit on final ratio.
