Dude. lay off the pedal... you should be doing way better... do undertand that you have winter mix in your fuel, but still. Check your filters. (I cant imagine a filter in that bad of shape). Honestly 8.5 is less than the megacabs.

i know i did go hard on the pedal about 2 weeks ago but i filled up and then wanted to see what i got for gas mileage and i went easy on the pedal since then .. i was at 17,244 miles and when i filled up i was at 17,347..i have a 26 gallon tank and i was slightly on the halfway marker but not right on the middle of it..so i took the difference of my miles and divided by 13 and got about 8.5

So i just got a 2007 dodge ram 2500 HD. It currently has 650 miles on it and im only getting 10.0 mpg. I exspected a little better than that. Will that get higher as the engine breaks in, i hear people geting like 16 mpg with the same engine. I think im going to get a K&N intake. I heard they help a little, and eventually a cat back exhaust
2500 has a bit more weight than the 1500's. Heavier frame, axles and such. I have 27k on my 2006 2500 and average 10.5 - 11mpg in the city. I can see 14+ on the freeway as long as it's 65mph or less. Bump it up to 75mph or 80mph and I'll get 11-11.5. No towiing, no load. Automatic, 3.73 gears and tires just slightly taller than stock (BF says 32.75 inches but they're actually 31.75 measured and that keep my speedo accurate by GPS and the portable police radar units)

...using higher octane fuel will considerably improve your mileage as well (to the point that it offsets the additional cost for the more expensive fuel).
Interesting, I read somewhere on this forum and from someone else that higher octane fuel may give you better performance but not better gas mileage. The owners manual for the 5.7L HEMI recommends 89 octane, but I get the same gas mileage with 87 as I do with 93 (no tuner). Should I actually be getting more MPG with high octane?

I have a little less than 2000 miles on our 08 Power Wagon, similar to a 2500 4X4, with a Hemi I am getting around 10 mpg around town, 12 to 13 mpg on the highway at 65 mph and 8.5 to 11.8 mpg towing a 7000 lb trailer. The mileage is slowly going up and it feels like it is getting more powerful every time I drive it.

yeah i figured the 2500 is built heavier with all the extra large components, but now my thing dropped to 9.9 mpg. its only getting lower, and i try not to get into the accelerator to much. i mean i have had the truck for like a week now, and still on the first tank of gas, infact only half way, and ive put like 200 - 300 miles on her so far...

I have actually seen about a 1+ mpg whe I use 91 in CO during the winter. In the summer it is closer to 2mpg better. I dont have a tuner, but I run a CAI and low restriction exhaust. I also drive my truck like a grandmother so that may have something to do with it. I do see about a 2 MPG drop when the winter fuel blend comes out.

Give it some time. I have seen my bigest gains in fuel economy by good tune ups and specially properly inflated tires. I dont carry stuff in the bed unless I have to and I just limit my want to punch the gas pedal....

It'll go up, give it a little bit. When I was in the "break-in" period I got about the same (8~10 mpg, even driving like a little old lady). Now during the warmer months I average around 14 - 15 mpg with mixed driving. If it's a pure highway trip, and I stay below 70 I have seen a tad over 16 mpg. If I push 'er over 70 the mpg drops but my rig has been leveled (less aerodynamic, though to what extent is debatable), has bigger tires, and is runnin' 4.56's (which I wouldn't trade for anything on a big heavy gasser)....

All the above noted, you didn't really buy a 3/4 ton pickup hoping for gas mileage now did you I told myself that once upon a time too...but snapped back to reality realizing that I bought a 3/4 'cuz I wanted a big bad a$$ truck that could exceed my hauling / towing needs and last a good while. And to be flat out honest I just prefer a SFA...not knockin' the IFS, it'd be fine for what I usually do, but dangit I wanted SFA and was willing to pay for it
