Default New Truck MPG

So i just got a 2007 dodge ram 2500 HD. It currently has 650 miles on it and im only getting 10.0 mpg. I exspected a little better than that. Will that get higher as the engine breaks in, i hear people geting like 16 mpg with the same engine. I think im going to get a K&N intake. I heard they help a little, and eventually a cat back exhaust

You will get there... remember you are driving a heavy duty truck. Best best is to take it easy for a while, let the engine break in a little bit and you will see improvements.

I have learned that regardless of whether you have a programer or not, using higher octane fuel will considerably improve your mileage as well (to the point that it offsets the additional cost for the more expensive fuel).

I hope you enjoy your truck... welcome to the forum

Your gas mileage will increase in time... intake exhaust and tuner will help you out! i get about 11 but im on 35's with my stock gears.. once i regear i should be much better the 3.73's really arent enough for this truck...

I have a 2008 2500 HD Hemi 6 spd. I started out at 10 mpg, now I get 11.8 to 13.5 at 2000 mi.

I have a 1500 5.7l - it is a different truck. I average between 16-18 combined. If I pull my camper it drops to like 11-12 highway.

Enjoy your truck...

Steve

Dude. lay off the pedal... you should be doing way better... do undertand that you have winter mix in your fuel, but still. Check your filters. (I cant imagine a filter in that bad of shape). Honestly 8.5 is less than the megacabs.
