Default New Member....and I have a question

Hello. I am a new member here and it is a very different forum. I spend most of my time on VWVortex.com and that forum is very different! As far as domestics go, I own a 04 Dodge Ram quad cab HEMI. It is NOT my daily driver so it only has 29,000 miles on it. I just recently had a power steering leak and it turned out to be the power steering rack and pinion. It was replaced under warrenty (minus my stupid chrysler $100 deductable). I also told them to replace my PV valve since I have no idea where it is or how to replace it. I can work on a vehicle for minor things (tune up and stuff) but this was not an area that I knew about. My question is: can anyone here tell me where the PCV valve under the hood. I think my stealership is a little shady so I just want to find this out. Thanks.

First off, [sm=welcomesign.gif]to the forum! Don't complain about a c-note to replace the steering rack. Without the warranty, you'd be looking at six to eight times that. Seems unlikely you need a PCV valve. At 29K, your truck is barely broken in. Anyway, to answer your question, it's near the back of the engine on the passenger side, behind the Hemi hat. Remove the hat and look for what would appear to be a smaller version of your gas cap.

Thanks buddy. Your right about the steering rack.....i didnt thing about it like that. as far as the pcv valve, after i told them to go ahead and do it, i could have kicked my own ****! i was at work and wasnt even thinking. the also wanted to change the tranny fluid and the rear end fluid along with the spark plugs. a grand total of $850. I said no cuz i can do all that myself. so your saying that the pcv valve probably did not need replaced? oh well...i guess i cot hosed. did any of you change your tranny/rear end fluid at 29K? seems a little early!

Congratulations on not paying $850 for roughly $300 worth of services. Actually, the manual says that's just about right for a tranny fluid change. Hopefully, they changed the filter, too. When I bought my truck at 86K, I changed the tranny fluid since I couldn't be sure of the service history. It's fairly easy, but a bit messy. The PCV valve can be cleaned a time or two before it needs replacement. From what I've read, as long as the check ball moves, the valve is OK. You went a different route. I paid to have my plugs changed (with my NGKs) and did the tranny myself. Those back plugs are a bear to reach, so I decided to pay for that ($29 for the plugs and $180labor). Out of curiosity, what did they charge for the PCV valve?
