Trade in Dilemma,
Well, i've had my 04 reg cab 4.7 in the shop twice for leaky door sills and the doors just weren't shutting right, and my cd player decided to keep my cd. So they fixed the cd player and and they attempted to fix the doors, but when it came back my drivers side door was hanging out about 1/2 inch fully shut. So back again. Well, the dealer has been good to me and picked up the truck and sent loaners out to me(80 miles away) and ofcourse they send me quad cab hemi's that are all decked out. Now there was never a issue about our truck until the wife realized she liked the extra room in the back. So now we're talking about trading it in and my salesman's working up some numbers for me. I got my reg. cab at a steal. Right now I can actually get full payoff on a 5 year note plus $2k only 7 months into the loan. I put $2k down when we bought it. But my payments aren't even $300 a month. No one I have talked to w/ a relatively close truck to mine has got a deal like i got on this one. They are offering me a 05 hemi quad cab "lonestar" -what they call the package in Texas, everything but leather, for $22.5K +tt&l, would you bite??? Its a good price considering its a lil over 10k off sticker. Anybody been in my place? It would be almost $200 more a month and i'd loose my reg. cab. Hmmmm... or just tell the wife to go get grocerie's in her lil truck and take the extra $$$ a month and rathole it. hmmmmmmm.......
If i had a second chance to buy...i would've gotten the Hemi. Just the simple fact that theres more out there for it. And of course the Power Wagon would be my choice (no i don't think big....just dumb

.
As for the door seals.....are u under 12000 miles???? You may be able to get it traded for the lemon Law....if they have it in Texas.

I would do it in a heartbeat. If I had to do it all over again, I would have gotten the HEMI too. I got my 4.7 fully loaded except leather and infinity sound system for 24,500 out the door, which is most likely what yours will come to. If you can get the HEMI at that price, I would do it. But then again, for $200 more a month, that's a choice that you are going to have to weigh heavily. Hope this helps.
I read your post twice, and I think the issue is the QC and not engine size as others have responded. You do not mention the bed length in your current vehicle, so if you currently have the long box, if you get the QC and the short box (6'6"), I do not think the weight difference would be much and the 4.7 should work nicely for you in my opinion.
yeah, it is a short bed, and the engine really isn't a issue w/ the reg. cab short bed, plenty of power, what i'm going through is trying to decide to keep the reg. cab w/ a nice little payment and have restricted space, or turn around and splurge and get a QC, and if i was to do that I would probably want the Hemi. Out the door price on the truck I am looking at is about $25,5k. But that is everything but leather, hemi, tow pkg. 20's, infinity, all the bells. Its a good price also. I'm just wondering if you guys find that space ever useful besides getting groceries w/ the old lady. I don't mind it when I go out w/ the buddies b/c i'd rather them not trash my new pick up, so we take one of their old beaters. Sounds ****ty, but if you knew my friends you'd understand, anyways, any insight is greatly appreciated. Hmmm.... maybe just trade for a reg. cab hemi or a rumbe bee
... don't think the wife is gonna go for that one though

Well from that stand point i'd say the Qcab. More room is better if ya need it. I work construction..so my entire back seat is filled with tools. I can fit up to 6 if need be...and still be somewhat comfortable.
When i go riding with freinds......we park one truck at one end of the trail..and another truck at the other end. Most rides last the entire day one way. So when u get a group of guys like that...its nice to have the room.

Luckily I don't work out of my truck, and I have a flush diamond plate toolbox to put the basic tools in. I wouldn't mind having that extra room. But i also remember you can put a 5 gallon bucket behind the seat of the reg. cabs which is pretty good. When my buddy's and I go out it usually turns into backroads bud light time. And i wouldn't even dare put any vehicle I owned no matter how crappy it was through that. But they drive old 3/4 tons and don't care. Maybe this is a battle between my wife and I. I'm starting to realize I really do like my little reg. cab, except for the 12 mpg part. I'm even thinking of getting the 20's and a retractable bed cover. Be alot cheaper and might work out for me. I don't know why I want those big tires and wheels, I've got brand new 17's w/ expensive michelins w/ only 8k miles on them. Guess you have to have some kind of useless wants
You guys have helped alot. You pointed out all the things you need out of your pickup. And really and truthfully, I don't need extra space, power, and that $200 more a month. Any suggestion on bed covers that retract, I do alot of moving and stuff, projects, etc. So I have to be able to use the bed. Its already got line-x. Now my salesman is probably gonna quit giving me a loaner. lmao

I have owned 3 other trucks with some kind of extended cab before, so this fit into what I was use to. Recently, because of growing kids, I did a stint with 2 SUVs, so interior storage became convenient. You did not mention pets or kids so maybe the extra cab space is not crucial, but it does provide a more secure place to lock things up, unless you have a locking hardcover or topper over the bed. If the low to no interest financing continues, and sales stay sluggish, you might get into an '05 SLT QC by early spring. I could not find what I wanted from dealer inventory, so I ordered from the factory mid Feb '04 and was driving exactly what I wanted by March 10th. My wife actually likes the seats and the ride more than her car. I went with the premium cloth seats with the power adust so she could reach the pedals. Never been much on a leather guy. If you get the QC, get the fold flat floor panels for the extra $100 - takes the shaft hump out of the store area and really improves storing stability and capacity.
Regarding your friends, if they can not appreciate and respect a great ride, they shouldn't be riding!

Truxedo has a limited lifetime warranty on the fabric and hardware with a good tensioning system that is nice for the temp fluctuations I see in WI. The latch mechanism is metal not nylon or a composit. It also uses velcro to fasten while they recently came out with a low profile model.
Access also makes a similar cover. Both have good websites with FAQ pages.
