Default Mega Cab Question

I have a new 1500 4X4 Mega Cab with the Hemi. Question is why is it labelled a 1500? Silly question I know but it has 3/4 ton axles, 8 bolt rims, 3/4 ton frame, everything is a 3/4 ton, its GVW is only slightley less than a 3/4 ton, but way more than a 1/2 ton. Seems odd that they call it a 1500 when there is nothing 1500 about it, maybe they want to well them to guys that don't want a 2500. I know the extra wwight of the Mega Cab requires the heavier frame, running gear etc, but its not a 1500.

With the extra weight it just doesn't quite meet the paylaod capicity of a 3/4 ton. It is like 150 or 200 lbs short of meeting payload. One thing to think about is it may be cheaper to licence? In my state it is so I went with 1500 and I'm thinking of an air bag system to increase payload. Then you have a 3/4 ton and you get to save some $$$ [sm=goodidea.gif]

I understand its a couple hundred pound less than a 2500 but its almost 1000 pound more than a 1500. As far as the insurance, well here in alberta its cheaper for a 2500 and even cheaper for a 3500.

Not quite sure what you mean here. The payload or "weight that can be hauled" is less than 3/4 of a ton (1500 pounds). Its more like 1325 pounds or something like that,so they can't rate it higher than it is so it falls back to the next rating 1/2 ton (1000 pounds).

Hope I'm not confusing the issue.
