Default buying a 2008

Im thinking of buying a 2008 quad cab. I currently own a 2001 ford f150 and Im getting about 15mpg average. Does the 08 hemi with mds and 5 speed automatic trans get the same or better mpg. (as the sticker and broshure claims) Should I consider the 4.7 with 5 speed auto trans insteed. The mpg on the stickers are the same. I drive alot of miles and the lifetime powertrain warranty is to good to pass up. Also does the mds on the hemi work ok or is it going to drive me crazy going in and out of 4cyl. I used to be a mechanic on caddilacs in the 80"s and they used to have the the 8,6,4 motors. (similar to the mds but it work like garbage and we usually disconnected the solenoids so it ran on 8 cyl. all the time). I appreciate any info. Thanks

compared to the old cadilac system this is a golden system... from what most are claiming the hemi could get better gas mileage with a few mods and good driving habits... 99% of these guys will reccomend the hemi.........

Get the Hemi. The MDS can turn on and off in 40 milliseconds, you will only be bothered with it if you think too much about it. I works great, as far as I can tell. If I recall what I saw on the stickers, the Hemi had a HIGHER mpg rating than the 4.7. The only problem will be once you install an exhaust and CAI, your foot will get heavy.

I would definitely get the Hemi with MDS. My 2005 Ram had the 4.7 and in all reality I get better mileage with the Hemi. You cant notice the MDS if you're stock.

Now that I have the Edge tuner it tells me when i'm in V4 vs. V8 and I've learned to tell the difference without looking, but the aftermarket exhaust has helped to make that a little clearer. If you want to improve mileage you can get an Edge tuner and run it in the Economy mode. It decreases how often the truck downshifts and keeps you in the lower RPM ranges. I really like it, although I am running it in Extreme mode at the moment.

Thanks for the replies, but can you tell me what you where averaging mpg. I heard dodge changed the mapping of the mds in mid 2007 and Im wodering if it had any real affect on mpg.

I have a 2008, 1500 QC 4X4, bought it the end of Nov. Right now I have a little over 3000 miles on it and everything is stock except I added a tauno cover. Right now I'm getting between 12 and 15 MPG depending on the weather. I park outside at home and at work. Because the weather here in WI has been so cold the past couple weeks I've been using the remote start every time I go out t drive it. Also, I've used 4X4 a bunch because we have been getting snow.

What I'm trying to say is, there is no good way to get a true MPG reading right now. It'll have to wait until spring / summer. I will say though I'm a mile or two better per gallon than my 03 4.7 QC 4X4 was under the same circumstances........If that helps.

MPG has to many factors to say you will get 15MPG. It will be between 13 and 16 on average with it worse in the winter due to winter blended gas.
