Fuel spilling on ground
Hey Guys
I just purchased a 04 ram with a 4.7L 4x4 crew cab and when I fill it up fuel spills down the side of the tank before the pump turns off. It's done this both times I've filled the tank at two different gas stations. My old 96 ram didn't do this, does anyone have any idea why this might be happening? I would like to resolve this before my paint gets ruined.
Thanks

It has been discussed on here before, although I don't remember anyone having problems with an 05 or older, but I'm going based on memory. I know about how much it takes to fill my truck, and when it's getting close I just slow the pump down, it's the only way I can keep it from spewing. I believe the problem lies with the angle in which the pump nozzle is positioned in the fill spout. Doesn't seem to do it if I'm "helping" the nozle, and not just letting the weight rest entirely on the truck...
Thanks for the responce.
Thats dissapointing. I was hoping for a fix not a change my pumping technique. I'll have to keep some cleaner and rags in my truck until I master the technique. I just looked into the spout and notice that thier is no flap that closes when the gas nozzle is removed.I that normal?

I had the same problem with an old ford ranger. In that truck, the rubber tube that connects the gas tank to the area were you put gas had a small crack in it and caused it to spill gas all over the place at higher pressure.
