Default Cranks but will not start

Hey guys, thanks for checking out my post. Well, here is my problem. I have a 2005 Ram SLT. 4.7 liter. I went muddin and all was well until i hit some water.. and after hitting the water a few times my truck stalled, but was able to start back up, but did not idle. So I left it and got towed back home the next day. Now the truck wont even start. It just cranks and cranks. I checked all the wires, put new battery on it and all the connections seem fine, Cleaned the air filter and checked out the fuel pump. I know it gets fuel because when i crank it i get a strong smell of fuel. I took off a coil pack and took out 1 spark plug and it smelt like fuel really strong, so i cleaned it, put it back it and still not starting. I also get the check engine light comes on when i crank, So im thinking mabey im not getting any spark? Do you guys think i need to replace all the plugs and dry out the coil packs? Any help would be great.

Thanks
Chris

when you tried to start it...did you give it some throttle to keep it running?

yes, the night it happend, when i got it to fire up i had to keep it at like 1500 rpms because if i let off the gas it would die.. wouldnt idle at all. Now it wont even start, just cranks

i dont really know due to the fact that you hit water. wait for someone that knows. but my truck did the same thing. twice actually. now its better but it did it twice. i first thought bc i have an aftermarket alarm that it was shorting and cutting off the engine as a safety measure. but i gave it gas and kept it idling at about 8 or 9 hundred rpm. i then slowly put it in drive and it drove fine. I then found out that the TPS had something to do with it. I messed with that a little bit and considered buying a new one (if you need one let me know, i know a good, cheap place to get it) and i also cleaned the throttle body. theres a DIY on how to do it, although its pretty simple and self explanitory. so my guess would be clean the throttle body, and look into a new TPS. the water could have fried it but i really dont know. wait for someone more knowledgeable on this subject

I dont know if you have a distributor or not but if you do take the cap off and dry it out . you for sure are not getting spark buy the sounds of it .

Uh, from what you're saying, its also possible that the ECM got wet (the computer). Its located on the passenger side on the fire wall. Before you disconnect it though, disconnect the battery and turn on the headlights to ensure the electrical system is completely dead, then pull the connector plugs off and dry them out with compressed air. Clean any crud around the ECM pins with a soft brush and compressed air. Pack the connector blocks with silicone grease and push back into place.

Just my .02--hope it helps

Do our trucks have a fuel shut off switch? Could that be it?
