I was just complaining about my stock tires yesterday.

My 2500 4x4 came with the Michelin LTX "all season" tires. Believe me, they are fairly useless in our Buffalo winters. If I had ordered it instead of buying it off-the-lot (it was a leftover '07 - hence the 11k discount ), I would have opted for the BFG Rugged Trail T/A's. I've been looking into getting a second set of wheels & tires for winter use but damn, tires for this thing are mighty expensive!
I just can't see spending upwards of a grand on winter tires & wheels. I can get a nice deal on a set of factory 17" aluminum wheels, but pretty much any decent on/off road tire in 265/70-17 or 285/70-17 with a D orE load rating is big money. I was looking at the Firestone Destination AT or the Yokohama Geolandar AT-S. Both of these seem like decent tires and sell for around $150 or less. Any other economical suggestions? I'm not looking to spend huge coin here because I don't do much bad weather driving but I'd like to feel a little more secure in my truck in the snow/ice. Seems kinda pointless buying a 4x4 only to lose so much of it's capability with the wrong tires.

This was my solution when we lived up north:
http://www.homedepot.com/webapp/wcs/...mp;D=quikcrete

5 bags = $17.30 + tax for 400#
