To avoid highway drone when the engine is in the 1500 to 2200 rpm range
either keep tailpipe length out of the 55 to 75 inch range
or pick a muffler with a
'Helmholtz Resonator'
inside the case.

An interesting muffler:

ORIGINAL: Sobomaster

I have a Flowmaster 50HD, CAI & Long Tube Headers. Very deep and throaty all the time, but surprisingly not really loud until you "get on it"...
That's a very relative statement. In my opinion that would be loud at all times and very loud when you get on it.
I'm sure that what I would consider "not really loud" others could define as "deafening", but please, Sobo, let's leave my relatives out of it, OK...I mean you don't see me making derogatory statements about your family, do ya'?
