Default Truck SH** to bed in my driveway

Looking for a few ideas what might be wrong. The other day my truck wouldn't start, it was -40C. First thought was battery, took the battery to the dealer and they gave me a new one. Still nothing, lights, everything worked fine. Tried to start it several times...nothing, then sitting there thinking about it...there it went all by itself. The key was in the ignition but it was at tleast 10 seconds since I touched it. Whe it sis start all the accessories (heater, radio ets) were going on and off. Well I took it for a drive and it seemed fine. Parked it and an hour later same thing but the alarm kept going off, couldn't shut it off so I had to unhook the battery. Oh yeah it even started with the alarm going off.Hooked it up in the morning and the alarm started going off but it started so I shut it off and restartedit and the alarm finally stopped. Took it to the dealer and they have found nothing wrong with it.

It is an 071500 Ram Mega Cab 4X4 5.7l lariat. Factory alarm, remote start and imobilizer.

Thanks for even reading this let alone giving me a few ideas.

Chris

Sounds like a PCM problem. The 07's are started by the computer; supply a resistance to the circuit and the computer takes over from there. Take it to the dealership, it's under warranty...

**Edit:
Somehow missed that there was a remote start on it, are you seeing the problem when you press the remote start button, or when you are trying to start it with the key?

Key fob is fine, no problems unlocking/locking the doors. When trying to start with the remote the horn would only beep once, it normally beeps twice. Didnt do anything after beeping.

And I have taken it to the dealer, they found no problem.

I would have had it towed but with the storm we had all the tow trucks were doing emergency towes.

Any ideas, I want to make sure the dealer checks everything.

Call the dealership. You can troubleshoot it to the end of the earth but there are literally a million possibilities.

-40C? That can have an affect on electronics, especially things like relays and such. What does it do when it's warm and you turn it off and try to restart?

Might not be related, but I noticed when I tried to remote start my truck the other day when the hood was up, it beeped once and did nothing. If it's not the cold, you have a PCM problem. Make sure you take it to the dealer and have them document the complaint, even if they say that they can't duplicate it. What they should do is take a known good PCM out of a used truck and switch it with yours, see if you still have problems. If it still has problems, you know it's not the PCM, and they can go from there. If it fixes it, they will have to install a PCM under warranty anyway. Question is, will they do it?

that's the second time i remember hearing of problems with the factory remote start and starting the truck. If I remember right, Pirata had a similar problem when he installed his superchips, so I would guess your problem is pcm related. The truck shouldn't start with the hood open, it's a safety issue. Somebody could be working on the engine (around the fan for example) and an accidental remote start could be very bad news.

The problem ismore starting related than remote starter related. Wouldn't start with either, lights, wipers....everything worked fine, battery was replaced which was fully charged. Tried the key several times, nothing...then it started without touching the key. Alarm was going off by itself, interior accessories were blinking on and off while idling. Took it to the dealer and no codes set and they could not duplicate the problem. I understane that -40 C is pretty cold and I could be experiencing some PCM issue due to cold. But if that were the case I would think that more than just my truck would be doing this. I will also say the dealer was really good, gave me a battery without bringing the truck in and took the time to have the Tech go out with me to the truck and try to make it duplicate it.
The problem has been documented, if it returns it will be time to start replaceing parts.
