Resetting the computer...03 5.7
I have put two tanks of fuel (89 oct) through my 03 and have driven like a grandmother and im still getting 12mpg. This is basically not good for me since my lifted 90 Cherokee was getting 15. I installed an AEM intake which i wanted anyway but with only 40k on what appears to be a very well kept truck i was hoping to get better mpg.. On my Jeeps you can reset the computer by disconnecting the battery for either overnight or turning the key forward a few times like you were going to start it dead. I tried that on the Ram and i didnt even lose my radio presets.. so im assuming that didnt work. Im hoping to reset it so the computer caters to my driving style and the intake to get me some better mileage.
Thanks for the help.. and any other fuel suggestions.

Good question. I thougth disconnecting the battery would reset it and the presets were just saved in a small bit of memory. Is that not the case?
I have heard of people taking their cars to a service center to hook them up to the computer to reset them. I heard on some vehicles not everything will reset simply by unhooking the battery
My dads 03 2500 will not get over 12 around town...no matter how you drive it. Highway it can get 15mpg and that with a tail wind.
I'm not trying to insult you but you did press the reset button on the overhead console right!?!?

I did reset the trip computer.. and i know they arent accurate so i did the hard calculation also.. its dead on.
Hopefully somebody knows for sure if its possible to reset the ECU in the driveway.
If the truck was older i would start suspecting clogged cat/02 sensors etc... but not yet i dont think. I cleaned my throttle body when i installed the intake/TB spacer..
