I have to disagree. If I'm cruising down a road at 35 or 40 mph and it's flat, in the city, then I'm riding on 4 cylinders and it's saving me gas. So it does help. Just depends on how aggressive you are. Also, if you can't keep the speed constant that it will have to keep switching into 8 cylinder mode.
