For those who drive on the beach
Me and a buddy are going down to Island Beach State Park in NJ. I have been there pleanty of times but havent had my new truck down yet.
If any of you guy ever went out on the sand, what did you lower your tires down to with the 20's. I know with my old Blazer i took the 15's down till they were mushy...so around10-12lbs. I'm just nore sure if the 20's will re-act the same with being they have less sidewall and all.
Secondly, my buddyhas superchips, hes curious if he should run the tow setting because you are pretty much working the motor pretty decent in the sand. Or just stick with another tune.
What do you guys think???

tire pressure? You got a 4x4. I take my truck down 40 miles of beach on padre island. No issues, go through really soft sand as slow as 5 mph up to 55 on hard sand. No need to lower your tp.
Just watch your rpms when you start slipping.
How far down are you planning to go? ( thats what she said )

I grew up on the beach in NC, ran my 95 blazer on it all the time with no trouble. Put her in 4 Low and go. And make sure to hose down the underside afterwards to get all the sand and salt out. Enjoy.
To my knowledge 4lo just throws more torque to the rear. I run it in 4 hi with no issues. Hose it down and then once more the next day. I go to the do it yourself car wash with the pressure hoses. The drivethrough ones blow even the ones that clean the bottom.
Get this after the drive back from corpus to San antonio I still had sand clumps in the wheels. No clue how it stayed there.

I third of 4th. Leave the tire pressure to normal and I second WASH the underside of your truck. Salty sand is the ultimate evil for vehicles, it will tear them apart before yout very eyes.
Pretty much already been stated though:
If you are not hauling a wave-runner orATV in the bed or towing anything leave it in 4 High and normal tire pressure.
If you are towing or hauling a large cargo load lowering your tire pressure does help as you have some experience you are aware.
As everyone else has stated wash the under carriage very well.
Have a blast.

if you want it to not rust out from under you, wash down the underside then use a garden pump sprayer to coat the undercarrage with tc-11 http://tc-11.com/
stuff is amazing - saved my subaru from all the salt after i did a beach cruise in it. (the rust was starting only a week later, the tc-11 got rid of the rust and stopped more from starting)
