warped rotors
Hi everyone. I'm new here, new to Dodge, just sold my 05 F250 Diesel Crew Cab 4x4 and bought and 03 Ram 1500 Hemi 4x4 Quad. I got a good deal on the dodge and accepted it as is with warped rotors. my question is what types of rotors would you guys recommend for replacement (if they won't turn them down for the time being), and where could I get said rotors? thanks in advance for your feeback

Okay, to start with.... replace the rotors outright. Dont even bother with trying to have them turned, as I would definitely spend the money now and do it right. Trust me, it may be a bit expensive, but its well worth it.
Most Chrysler OEM rotors are made of subpar metal, and thus, tend to warp pretty bad....simply do a search on rotors or warped and you'll probably find hundreds of responses...
You can pick up quality rotors for your truck at Parts America, Autozone, NAPA, or PepBoys (if you have one in your area). Just dont buy the super cheap ones, unless you absolutely have to. My suggestion is that if your paying less then $40 a rotor in a shop, chances are its crap...
I'd also say that if you are going to replace your rotors, then you really need to do your brake pads as well. Hawk brake Pads, Green Stuff brake Pads, all quality and well worth the cost...

RE: warped rotors
I think that if you have 20's, they will always warp. I think. The rotors are too small. I think. With slanted, drilled, they cant be resurfaced and they are expensive. I would buy the autoparts brand and just replace them every 36k miles. By the way I founda picture of yous online . . .

RE: warped rotors
If you are using after market rims and/or tires, this could be the root of your problems. Larger rims / tires are harder to stop than the factory rims/wheels. I would suggest going with a slotted rotor, or the better option slotted/drilled rotor. Like DR said change the break pads as well. (Hawk HD, EBC Green Stuff, or if money is no option EBC Yellow Stuff)

RE: warped rotors
My 03 had the same problem, its pretty common. ANY replacement rotor will be an improvement. I just wouldnt get Mopar rotors.
If you are going to replace them yourself take this advise, it took me lots of sweat and bloody nuckles to learn, Get a sledge hammer for the rears, the parking brake is seated inside the rotor and you'll have to pound the crap out of it to get the rotor off. I tried a wheel puller and that dodnt even loosen em.

I had the same problem on my 03 when I bought it. It was my first project. I went with the power slots and green stuff pads. The rotors were pricey. I think it was 104 a rotor. I bought then thru the tirerack.com You can find them at a lot of places, but they seem to pretty much be the same price everywhere. I've had good luck with them. It's hard to feel the diffrence on my truck, but they made a tremeduse diffrence on my beater. I haven't done the rears yet. Good luck

RE: warped rotors
thanks everyone for responding. right now i have stock setup for rims/tires, and they're not the 20's. in any case, i get the picture, mopar no good, buy something quality and it will last and perform better. any other places you guys recommend I look? ebay has a selection but they just appear to be cheesy to me. like they'd warp or crack in a year or so. I don't mind paying a little extra for something that's gonna do a better job and last longer. is it a major job to redo the brakes up front (new rotors/brakes). I did rotors a while back and don't remember. I can handle the brakes no problem. do I need any special tools for pulling off the old rotors?
thanks again
