Default Highway power?

Hey Guys,

Wondering what i can do to increase my trucks power on the highway.
I have the little 4.7, and when I am on the highway - it won't go up a gradual grade without having to hammer it.

Would I changing the gears in the diffs help or hurt?

I have the CAI, cat back dual exhaust, retarded nitro box.
Any help would be appreciated...

My truck is very peppy but it does come out of overdrive on some upgrades when I have the cruise control on.

I forgot to add that 90% of my miles are highway.

I travel from massachusetts to maine to new york repairing HVAC / duct forming machinery.

I spend a lot of time on the highway, and I'll need a solution that will work for that.

Will gears help me out?

yeah gears are the answer to your problem - what size tires are you running? Are you going to go bigger with tires and or lift? That all needs to be considered when regearing.

How do the new gears treat the gas mileage and how does it change the RPM's at highway speeds.

I have yet to regear my truck but will be at some point in the next few months - but from what others have posted on this site and others - guys areusuallygettingan increase in mpg - especially if theywent with bigger tires/and or a lift - your RPMs will go up, but the whole point of gears is mechanical advantage - for my truck going to a 4.56 gearing is a 18% or 22% mechanical advantage, which means less strain on everything that makes the truck move, easier take offs, and your truck is able to maintain speed better on hwy's. MPG is not directly related to RPMs all the time.

Yeah, HVAC machinery

I fix Press Brakes, Hand Brakes, Plasma Tables, Roll formers - you name it.
Anywhere I'm needed.

I did put larger tires on the truck - I went from the 245/17's to the optional 265/17's.
They are listed in the owner's manual as optional equipment. I don't really think that would affect it too much. I only went with those tires because they're able to handle loads of 2970 Lbs.
( I carry machinery sometimes).

It seems like the truck having problems accelerating on almost level ground.
Are the 4.7's really this bad or is it just mine?

What gears would I put in it, and would I have to do both diffs?
I'm a machinery mechanic, so I'm relying on youz guyz to help me out here...
I'm not knowledgeable about gear ratio's and stuff.

Thanks again for the help
