strange noise
Hello Everyone, I own a 04 quad cab 4.7L 4x4 with about 7k miles on it. About a month ago I noticed a noise coming from the right front of the truck. I can only hear it when I am coasting at slow speeds, like when I am coming to a stop or driving through a neigborhood. Lately I have been hearing this noise more often. It doesn't always happen but it seems to happen most after the truck has been driven on the freeway. The noise doesn't sound like metal on metal, but it is more of a muffled plop, plop, plop...
I rotated the tires recently and nothing seems to be loose or out of place behind the right front tire. Any help would be appreciated.

Just a couple of questions...
1. Does the noise go away when you lightly step in the brake?
2. Do you feel any pulsing/shaking when you are braking hard from the front of the vehicle?
3. Can you replicate the noise by jacking the front up and rotating the tire by hand?
If the answer is yes, you may have enough runout in the brake rotor to be causing the pads/caliper to be shifting around thus making the noise. If no, then you might want to have the u-joints checked. I problems with both warping rotors and seized u-joints that were causing quite a racket on my truck last summer.
I hope these ideas help.
David.
