Default flashing check engine light and lighting bolt

lately while im driving the check engine light will come on, be solid for about 5 minutes, then it will flash for another 5 or 10 mins then it will go off and stay off.... as well sometimes the red lighting bolt in the bottom right hand corner of the dash will come on and flash and the truck sounds like its running on half the cylinders... anyone know what would be causing these things to happen??? thanks

generally, the flashing cel means your cat is in trouble (not saying this is happening in your case). The lightning bolt usually means an electronic throttle control problem. Head to an autozone or advance autoparts and they can pull the code for you for free. Even if the light isn't on when you get there, it should still be stored in the pcm.

The lightning bolt shows up when you have a serious problem. It showed up when many guys I have talked too lost heir trannys so I know it means more than just a throttle control issue.

Do you own a code scanner nathanp?

On an 05 the key trick should work: 3 time to on & 3 times off...never starting and leaving in the on position. Takes a few tries it is all timing. Any codes should show in the ODO area.

well if when u say CAT you mean the converter then it isnt that, cause i dont have one haha. I have a super chips programmer, i think it has a code reader built into it, i never thought of that. I dont see how the lighting bolt could be the tranny.... cause it drives fine it seems more like an ignition or fuel problem to me when that light is on.

that light came on for me as well, i used the key on off trick.
got P2175(throttle actuator control sys - low airflow detected)and
P2106(throttle actuator control sys - forced limited power)

i found what the codes meant by doing a google search and came across this site www.obd-codes.com search their forums and you should be able to find somethin.

just get someone to erase the code and it should go away. usually happens to me when its -30 out. or use superchips to erase it if you have it.
