I have seen people run the 6.1L cam in there 5.7L with the stock springs and have no problems. The ones I know who had the problems were the ones whoinstalled the Comp Springs.

The 6.1L cam wont give the rough idle your lookin. If you DO put a Larger cam.then spring replacement is a must.try KRCPerformance.com they offer all sorts of performance parts for the hemi. They could have just what your looking for and they could answer your questions more precisly. You can also try Sharadon Performance.I dont remmember there website address but if you search it on yahoo it should pop up.

You won't be able to tune a comp 273 and the power is too high up, you won't be able to tach it to 7000 rpm which is what is needed with the 273. About the biggest you can go is a 268 and you will still have to piggyback it in order for it to work right.

Piggyback is no longer needed since the SCT tuner is out with Hemi support. I think Marty at KRC has even tamed the 273 with it...

Back to the original question, yes with any cam upgrade, you should upgrade the springs & retainers. Although some people have upgraded to mild cams like the 6.1 or 260 without doing the springs with no reported problems........ yet.

ORIGINAL: allena9

what do you mean piggyback it??
A plug in module that allows for changing A/F ratio's and other engine specifications to allow for proper performance with different duration ranges of upgraded cams.
Previously the only way other than a custom tune to tame an aggressive cam to work properly.
