RE: 2500 5.7L HEMI vs. 1500 5.7L HEMI
The curb wieght shows the 2500 to be 900# heavier, will vary depending on model. Towing is listed at 10850 for the 2500 and 8750 for the 1500 (Hemi's with ATX).
I got the 1500 for about $12K+ less sticker. Dodge was giving away hemi's with a Hemi rebate, mfg rebate, dealer incentive and a state fair special at the time. The discount on the 2500 was only about $8K so all total a comparable 2500 in my market cost $6K more then the 1500 did.

One more item I forgot to mention abought the 2500 Ram, The stock LT 265 70 17 rims stick out of the wheal wells more than the hemi, the BFG R/T T/A are going to strip your lower rockers clean of paint.
On my truck I have to repair this, even with large mud flaps, damage is done..

I had a GREAT Big Horn 1500 and wanted the 2500 diesel to pull my trailer. Got it, good discount, and it pulled the 7500 pound trailer like it wasn't there. But diesel is up to $3.89 in Memphis and I had to do something! So I got a good deal on going back to the 1500, full warranty, Mega Cab. I was told ALL MEGA CABS are on the 2500 frame, even though the sticker says 1500 SLT. I was told it will pull 10,000 pounds. So tonight. I look at the 2007 book, my 1500 is a 2008 but I'd bet they are the same frames- and you know - a 1500 4x2 mega cab with the 3.73 rear is listed at 7800 pounds MAX towing. I AM SICK AND SCREWED! I just can't believe it. So if you are going to pull ANYTHING - get the 2500 diesel, but be ready for ECU clogging error producing lights. The Cummins is warranted by Cummins - not Dodge. My fault - believed the salesman I've bought from for about 8 years. My 2500 mileage at 4400 miles was 16, and it looks like that is going to beat this HEMI good. But that 6 speed tranny in the diesel was perfect.

Mines a 4X4 and I don't have my book in front of me but it is only a few lbs lower than the 2500 and a lot more than 7800lbs.... I'll have to look but even with the std rear end I'm thinking it was near 10K, I know the payload is like 1980lbs (stock)
I also run the premium and I run Shell. Here in Oregon we have the worst regulations on gas and they all sell the cheapest they can. I used to run Texaco or BP and now those are rare to find.
