Warranty Question?
I bought my '05 truck in October '07. It had 37k miles on it so I know that it was out of the factory warranty. I specifically asked if it was covered under the 7/70k powertrain warranty and I was told "no it wasn't." So I shelled out $1700 for another 3/36k extended warranty. That will cover me until around 73k miles. Yesterday I got a letter from Chrysler telling me that the truck has the remainder of the 7/70k warranty and if I would like to have it transfered to me I would have to pay them $150. I know the the 7/70k is powertrain only but how much shiat actually breaks that is not related to the powertrain? Not $1700 worth. I would not have gotten the extended if they had told me the truth. What is my recourse? Can go back and make the dealer give me my money back on the extended warranty? Or just chalk it up to an expensive learning experience? Hell that would have changed my payment by about $40.
I am not sure about the laws, but i think to much time has passed. If you had researched the warranty and found out you were covered within a few days of purchase, then i'd say the y would give you a refund. If you have had NO warranty work done, and have not used it in any way, they may give a refund for that. I'd talk to the manager at the dealership, if he wants you to buy your next vehicle there, he will give you the money back. At this point it may be entirely up to the dealership. I think you got completely ripped off though. you paid 1700 for the warranty for 3/36.... I paid 2200 After tax for the bumper to bumer 10yr/100k warranty... i bought it new though.
The factory warranties always follow the truck...even if you're the 10th owner. There might be a small transfer fee like in your case but sometimes there's not even that.
The dealers make their money by selling BS warranties...always have. You can go back and raise hell just for ****s and grins, there's always a chance you can get your money back.

Read the warranty contract that you have. You can cancle any warranty. If its before 30 days, they have to give you full refund. If its after 30 days, then they prorate it. But at least you will get you money back, and since its only been a couple of months, you might get back 80-90% back of it. Trust me on this because I did it a couple of times with my prior vehicles before I traded them in. Just FYI
