Default Engine Noise Question

Hello 3 Gen guys! I have a question for those of you who have the 5.7 Hemi engines. We have a 2006 300C with that engine. It makes a loud ticking noise at idle that sounds like bad lifters. I have had dealers and forum members on the 300 site tell me that the ticking is "normal Hemi noise". I don't believe it - but I thought I'd ask you guys with the trucks and see if you have it as well. If you guys have it too - then maybe I'll believe it. Thanks for your input!

i have a 07 with the hemi and yeah it makes a ticking noise at idle some times, what grade of gas are you using? i use 89, thats what the owners manual says to run, if your running 87 it could be from the gas i have hear that it clatters alot more with the lower octane but i'm no mechanic. hope my 2 cents helps

We use 89, 91, or 93 octane exclusively.

I've got an '06 Hemi and it clicks also.

Happened at the dealer when I first looked at it and was assured it was normal by them.

28,000 miles later it still clicks but I never had any problems with it.

Dodge has quietly put forth a solution for the "Hemi Tick" noise
in the pdf file here:

http://tinyurl.com/37py3x

if you are still under warranty
print that pdf file out and take it to the dealership
for them to look it up under the STAR database

The 'root' of the problem is oversize valve stem guides
but instead of replacing those parts
Chrysler retro-fits valves with larger diameter stems

HankL

Thanks for the updated info.

I'm going to the Dodge House with it this morning.

Hank, I would assume that solution would work on a '06 Chrysler as well? Do you know for sure?

Infamous "Hemi Tick", very well documented, you could do a Google search and find hundreds of articles. Problem is finding a dealer who will do anything about it. Unless the noise is crazy eccessive, they will call it "normal" for the Hemi engine and will tell you to have a nice day...
Mine has had it almost since day one and although I only have 37k on my '04, I have a buddy with an '04 QCSB 4x2 Hemi with almost 130k miles on his. Hemi tick since day one on his with no engine problems to date.
