Hello new here and was wondering if there are any Calif guys running cams here that could pass the sniffer test. I would like to go as big as possible (still using all the stock stuff, good vacuum etc) I read a post on some of the Comp Cams stuff. Not looking to go radical but a nice 30-40hp boost would be great and from what I have read it is doable with a cam. I have the superchip programmer/Bassani exhaust/homemade ram air now! Any thoughts?

 

What engine do you have?
If a hemi, the 6.1L cam would be your best LEGAL bet since it is a MOPAR part.

As for a 4.7L,I had a friend have his 4.7L smogged and he is running the 4.7L H.O cams and he passed with flying colors.He was actually running cleaner.

What kinda of gains do you get with the 6.1 cam.

 

I dont know the exact gains, but there are some.Maybe 20 HP I dont know 100%.

 

test your truck without them. then put em on. thatll beat the trap! lol. i hate our cali laws damn it!

 

6.1 I'm sure would pass, but most people I've talked to that went to it were not happy with the low end torque that was lost for the 20 or so high end HP gains.

A mild cam like the Comp 260 may be a good bet, anything more aggressive than that usually requires long tube headers, so that would shoot you down right there. You could always email Comp Cams or Crane and ask...
