Default TrueFlow CAI - Not impressed

I recently installed a TrueFlow CAI on my 08 MegaCab 4x4. The only real change I can notice is the obvious sound and a loss of power at lower RPM's. The truck seems to have more high end speed, but it is almost sluggish at lower rpm's.

I then got a superchips tuner to see if that would help on the low end. I like the new shift points, but it did not help the sluggish acceleration. Does anyone else have this problem? Any suggestions?

Thanks

I started to Install the TrueFlow but was told that in changing to other that stock I would lose some low end torque.. A friend did Install other then OEM on his 2007 5.7 Hemi and DID lose low end torque... The muffler system Is designed so well that any major change will alter performance...the system needs the designed back pressure.. Ask the shop that Installed for you... I feel they should have told you about the loss with low end torque.

Thanks for the response - I guess I will install the OEM piece back on. Is there another intake that does not lower low end power?

With the stock exhaust you will probably see a low end torque loss (but high end HP gains) from ANYTHING that increases air flow.
The fix would be to do a CAI and cat-back system at the same time. I did my cat-back using a Flowmaster 50HD muffler about a year before I did the CAI, and did not notice any torque loss after the CAI. However, I experienced it when I did the Long Tube Headers and cut out the cats. A much bigger high end HP gain, but still a noticiable torque loss under about 1800 rpms. I subsequently welded the cats back into the system and gained most of the low end back...

The OP is talking about the trueflow cold air intake...not the exhaust which is what back pressure is concerning. Yes, if you lose too much back pressure in the exhaust system you will lose some low-end tq but gain high-end hp.

The runnersin the intake manifoldare the same length whether you have a CAI on or not...there won't be a loss of low-end torque from a CAI. Without forced induction the engine will onlytake inthe air that it needs....no more or less (unless there's restriction in the stock setup). If there is a loss it's due to a fuel issue IMO...the CAI could've caused a rich condition which would explain any loss. Give the puter a little time to learn the fuel trims.

I noticed a little bit of this with my Volant, but after a tank of gas it was MUCH better. I don't notice any loss, and it definitely moves better. Its funny how much the computer controls in modern vehicles. I'm coming from an '87 monte carlo SS with a computer delete, so the idea that I have to wait for the computer to learn about new engine conditions seems wild to me.

Don't mean to hijack, but got any pics of your Monte Carlo?

Unfortunately this was right after an a$$hole hit me on the rear quarter and the door, but try to imagine it without the damage and some cragar SS's... I miss my car.

I installed the trueflow on my truck. I did not notice any power loss, but I did lose 2 mpg, and that I did not like.
