Default AC prob (again I know)

I did the search but couldn't find the tread. My AC only blows cold while driving and goes hot when at rest. I know my condenser fan is not working at all. Do I just need to replace it or does the problem stem from somewhere else? Thanks guys!

My fan shorted out in the rain. The dealer said there was a service bulletin on it. I cost me $800.00 to replace the fan and shroud with a improved version(so they say). I guess water would get in somewhere and short it out.It kept blowing fuses and the check engine lite would stay on. I took it to Auto Zone and no codes came up. Dealer said it was because of the fan problem. They said I didn't have to fix it if I didn't use the air. Ya right I live in So.Cal.so that's not going to happen. It blew the fuse when I used the defroster.

Good Luck, Dave

Well, after finally deciding that my fan motor went bad, I bought a new one on Ebay for $75.00, swapped it out myself (let all the freon out at the same time, sorry Ozone) turned the AC on and it works! Now after a $140 recharge, I now have a cold blowing AC again. Just in time for summer, thank God.

I replaced mine without draining the freon. I did have to remove the cross-memeber that hold the latch for the hood.

Buy a full replacement motor, shroud and new power pigtail, from either ebay(cheaper option) or the dealership.
You can replace all this without discharging the freon.
The new shroud, stops water build uppuddling in the bottom which freezes during the winter months, causing the AC Cooling fan blades to stick and freeze solid in the ice.
This is what typically blows the AC cond fuses in cold weather.
Also, dependant on how much you use either the defrost posistion on the heater, which forces the ac motor to run dehumidifying the airand the air conditioningwhich again, turns on the fan, will wearthe ac fan motor brushes out over time.
This can be diagnosed by tapping the fan motor with a large screwdriver if it's stopped. If it spins back up, you can bet your last months pay packet, that it's the motor brushes shot.
I rebuilt my fan motor and installed a new set of brushes. Also, modded the shroud by trimming the bottom of the plastic shroud, so water cannot build up and freeze. All is now OK.
Hope this all helps?
Al.
