Does anyone have before and after dyno pulls with a TC change? Just wondering if there is any proof that someone makes a good TC.
Call or shoot an email to Marty at KRC Performance. They do them in Dodges quite often and he dyno's there. I know I've been there and he's pointed to one on a table and said that if you want to cut your 25% lost from the engine to the rear wheels down to 10%, put in one of those...
Yea...that's a little extreme. APS claims a 6% improvement over the 14% loss just from the TC...that doesn't include the rest of the tranny or the rear. Still looking at a good 20% loss..

Yeah, if he is claiming to increase the efficiency of the convertor by 60%,and he can show data I would believe that. But if he says that the drivetrain loss will decrease by 60% by using his convertorthen I know he is full of ****.

stratus - I've always heard our torque converters sucked, I've heard losses of up to 30%
Not that I doubt you, because I don't, but hearing and knowing are two different things. I am a numbers guy, if you can show me some data proving one thing is better than another I will believe it.

In all fairness, with a TC it's more then just numbers...that's why a dyno alone won't show you everything. Even if the loss is the same as a stocker (which i'm sure it's not) the true gain of a higher stall TC is it's ability to keep you higher in the powerband...along with mulitpling torque something fierce. The track is where you really wanna test out a TC...

I don't know how much "tongue in cheek" his statementto me was, as this never got to a serious discussion. But I can tell you this, on ALL the hardcore Dodge Forums (of which this one ain't) where the REAL gurus and performance shop guys hang (of which, I am certainly not), KRC Performance is considered one of the top two or three performance shops for Chrysler engines in the country. If you pin him down and he thinks you are sincere with your interest, I have found that Marty will shoot you a straight line and back it up with dyno's.
His laptop is full of before & after dyno's on most of the vehicles he's modded. I trust that place enough that I'm gonna have him not only install my cam, but wright the custom tunes for the SCT tuner at the same time. And when he tells me that he's comfortable enough writing the tune, then that's good enough for me.
So, if you are serious enough about a torque converter, shoot him and email or call...
