Another broken HEMI valve spring
Incase anybody was following I found my problem. Broken Valve Spring on number 5 Cylinder. It felt like a fuel problem or an egr problem. It would run fine one start up and run like dump the next. Took it in, everything was working right, the only way they could tell was from a scanner detecting a misfire. He checking the cpu making sure it was firing. The injectors were good so he pulled the valve cover off. And found a broke spring. I have a pic but it will not load up its to large. Thanks

What sucks is i just bought the truck, i am the third owner, and the factory warrant doesnt go out that far. I already called Dodge, they cant help. The place i bought it off of is going to help a little. 485.00 to replace all of them,Yeah buddy. Hopefully this will be the only thing major that goes wrong with it. The truck is in great shape so we will see. Just wanted to let everyboyd know because i read a thread a couple weeks back about the same problem.

RE: Another broken HEMI valve spring
Not a common problem, but a known weakness. My local performance shop strongly suggests replacing the rather weak 5.7 springs with either the 6.1s, Comps or Manley's with ANY aftermarket cam upgrade, even a mild one. He notes that this is not necessary on GM or Ford V8s unless going to a very aggressive cam.
So I'd say that the springs are an achilles heel in our engines. Failures on a stock or mildly modded setup may not be real common, but it still doesn't mean it's not a weak point...

RE: Another broken HEMI valve spring
I have been working at Dodge since 2002 and I have only seen two broken valve springs on hemi engines. I wouldn't get to concerned about it I have work on hundreds of these trucks. I have seen it happen on many other types of engines too. My hemi has 140,000km on it no problems so far.

I was under the impression that the hemi is not really suited for high Rpms, granted it revs higher than a Ford 5.4 ,but if your not making a habit of bouncing off the rev limiter, I really doubt thiers going to be a problem.
Now, what happens to the valve if the springs breaks and the piston hits it, Carnage ....
