Default Another tire Question-Sorry!

I own an 05 2500 4x4, replacing stock tires. It now has 265's on steel/ chrome wheels-17". I found a set of stock alum. 17's and want to know if I can upgrade to 285's without any mods. - Thanks

Metric tire measurements don't mean squat without all 3 measurements, IE: 285/70R17. The first number is the tread width. The second number is a percentage if the treadwidth on the side wall. The third number is the rim size. In this case the tire tread width is 285mm, the sidewall is 70% of thetread width (199.5mm) and the rim is 17" making this example 33" x 11.2" on a 17" rim. If this is the size of tire you are looking to put on it should fit a stock suspension setup.
