so...i'm trying to convert my center console to actually open up...
like the nicer models...slt, sport, laramie.
my st just has a stupic brick there, and i can't open it to store ****...which is dumb. and...the dumbest part, is that the console is there, but they just wrap it up so it can't be used.
i've taken maticulous pictures, with the intent to write an amazing diy...
here's where i'm at now:

Dodge uses the same center console for everytruck. they just wrap them differently. Every truck has this, you just have to split the seams, and find the hinge hardware.
please let me know when you finish this derricksmash...cuz i want a freakin center console too

i am a genius. but yea...this may take some crazy customization. i'm trying to think of the best way to do it. in that pic i showed u (and i've taken pics of all steps/tools so far) there are two seperate pieces. and, ni the back, there would be a hinge. it's plastic, so i'm just gonna buy some small hinges and screw them sumbitches in. ALSO, there is also a spot to put the locking mechanism. the metal bar is ready for use, but there is no push buttom&latch to hook onto it. if it's like under $20 bucks, i'll buy it. otherwise, i'll just let it sit freely.
anyways, i'm considering making the top piece out of two 1/2" plywood sections. this way, it would be heavy enough to not bounce around liek the plastic one would, and also casue it would be easier to wrap it in fabric or vinyl or whatever...then i couldnt' fold it up without **** falling out.
so, maybe i need the latch...i'll figure something out. my biggest issue now, is trying to figure out how to vinyl around it nicely. i'm obviously gonna staple it, but i don't want it to look dumb. i mean, it's only gonna look dumb when you open it, but still.
anyways, yes...my truck is an st, and it does have a console in there. i'm working on it, but mostly thinking...so, i'll be sure to keep you all updated

I can't believe it wouldn't save them money to offer just one standard, opening console. Having two made probably costs them more than sticking to "one size fits all."
