Also remember if you get a good quality sub you HAVE to get a good quality amp. It goes hand in hand like the mtx thunderform for our truck has two 4500 10" subs which are way cheap so it only takes 200 rms to power it. Also don't look at max watts when buying anything look at the rms. But for $1000 for one JL 13.5 W7 damn i don't need it to be that good.

ur comparing a jl w7 to a thunder 4500? a jl w7 is a 1000 watt rms sub and is around a grand. other 1000 watt subs like a kicker l7 are aroudn that price a bit less. fosgate t2's are 800. so JL isn't really that much more expensive when you look at comparing it to equal others.

no im saying if you buy a nice amp you need a nice sub as in the 4500's had a 400w sub while the w7 needed a 1000+ rms sub. trust me i had a 4500 those things suck *****.

the 4500 series are good, if you also consider the segment they fit in. I have the thundeform with them and its sounds good for an amplified sub system in a preformed enclosure. It hits good for its wattage and is acceptable. But to expect it to compete head to head with a high quality componenet sub, no their sound wont stand up to that level. You need to decide what sound you want. For me, right now a 400-1k rms watt system isnt feesible at this time, though maybe later i will replace them with new subs and higher power.

you guys areright...you dont have enough airspace....the 10 inch woofersfunction in the 1.3 cubic feet of airspace provided in the custom enclosureas they only require 1.25 cuft to perform.your 12" custom enclosure can only provide the same airspace but the jl woofersrequire 2.250 cu ft of airspace so if you went to 10" woofers you'd get better sound seeing as you are limited to the size of under theback seat. just my .02

^^ yup

kx if you compare a mtx 9500 that requires 1000 watts rms to a w7 that is 1000 watts rms the price isn't that terribly more for the JL setup. obviously the set up for a w7 is more expensive than a thunder 4500.

Sorry if I mistaken everyone but I was trying to say that the better the sub the better the amp you need becuase a W7 is going work with a 200w rms amp just like a 4500 isn't going to handle a 1000rms amp. I just used the W7 and 4500 as examples. But I know the W7 is in the price range as other competitors of that category but you got look at some so called underground subs that are equal or even better. Companies like orion, Fi, and others. As far as for a ram all these are way overkill unless your into it. But back to subs for a ram, Ive trucks with the center console removed they built a enclosure in the middle of the front seat then bolted the flip up back rest to the enclosure so you still have the storage and a factory look. Just a thought.

True. JL makes one of those that replaces center console.

I wouldn't call orion and FI underground they just are more for SPL competition. If you get into Db drag and USAC competition stuff you'll find them a lot more. FI, Orion, Resonant Engineering, Memphis Audio. All make damn good stuff but it's more built for competition than just everyday bumping.
