Default tranny fluid

i have a 03 4by4 ram 4.7 how many quarts of tranny fluid does it take to change ? is the filter hard to get out ? dont see a drain plug ? first time post. thanks.

gotta drop the trans pan...believe theres like 15 or 18 bolts (13MM if i remember correctly) and then the filter (i think theres 2 or 3 Torx screws holding the filter in)[<---doing this from memory so i could be wrong]clean up the surfaces, put some RTV or use a gasket and put the pan back on...the trans:




AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION

Service Fill - 46RE
3.8 L (4.0 qts.)

O-haul - 46RE
9-9.5L (19-20 pts.) ♦

Service Fill - 47RE
3.8 L (4.0 qts.)

O-haul - 47RE
14-16L (29-33 pts.) ♦

Service Fill - 48RE
3.8 L (4.0 qts.)

O-haul - 48RE
14-16L (29-33 pts.) ♦

Service Fill - 45RFE/545RFE
4X2 - 5.2 L (11.0 pts.)


4X4 - 6.2 L (13.0 pts.)

O-haul - 45RFE/545RFE
14-16 L (29-33 pts.) ♦

Yep, gotta drop the pan. If it's a 45RFE or 545RFE, you may need both filters. The flat filter gets changed every 30K, the spin-on every 60K. Mine took right at seven quarts (I let it drain for a while).

Only regular maintainance I have paid for is the tranny fluid change. It's a pain to drop that thing in the driveway, I have yet to do one without making a mess. Although after the hell of a time I had doing the plugs at 30k, I may opt to pay to have that done to at 60k...

I guess now that I've hit 40 I must be getting lazy, but some things are just getting to be easier to have done...

hey...i had the trans fluid in my truck changed at the dealership and i'm only 23 lol...course i also live in an apartment with no place to dump the fluid lol
