RE: 180 degree T Stat temp gauge reading.
Mine stays right at about 1/4 position as well, maybe just a hair over. On paper, you should actually get slightly worse gas mileage with a lower temp thermostat, as it causes the mixture to run slightly richer. Although it's very miniscual, maybe a tenth of a mpg ortwo worse...
I'll trade that one or two tenths of a mpg for a cooler running engine that should benefit with a longer life. Besides, the stat was necessary for me, as my tuner and LT headers combo had me running a little lean, the t-stat richened it up to bring my A/F ratio back to spec...

Thanks for the fast reply HammerZ71.
Yep.....I'd rather have a cooler engine than the way my truck was starting to behave.
She would cycle over a 4 minute period from the usual 1 needle width below 1/2 way on the gauge to about very nearly 3/4 on the gauge.
I removed the oldT stat and a lot of the rubber gasket/sealingstuff inside, was looking rather odd and old.
It was buckled and rucked up, instead of laying flat like on the new T Stat.
Also, the old gasket was badly split.
Anyhow, this Mr Gasket T Stat seems to be doing it's thing.
Cheers,
Al.

a t-stat will only control your minimum temp, it has no affect on your operating or max temp. also, yes a hotter t-stat will improve fuel efficiency but you should run what the manufacturer recommends due to factory engine clearances, etc. in the case of a programmer i would run what they recommend.

MPG loss
will be less than 0.2 miles per US Gallon
in a careful test
Fuel Economy Calculator program
calls for a .07 MPG drop
at a steady 70 mph
on a 3rd Gen Ram with 5.7 Hemi
when dropping from 195 to 175 thermostat,
but the stock 5.7 thermostat is a 203

Same here (1/4)....I couldn't tell you if the mileage has dropped (still on the same tank of fuel), but can say that she didn't throw even one code when driving in 10 degree (F) weather....Seems to be doing just fine...For me, with better flow (intake / exhaust), plus a tuner I felt like a slightly cooler runnin' engine would be a healthy thing.....
