Bed Cover
Hello:
I bought a 08 Ram a couple weeks ago and I have really enjoyed this forum. I am looking for a bed cover that will be low in maintenance but stand up to the abuse of an automatic car wash. I see Truxedo advertised and they sell them here in Denver at Jazz it Up. I like the price but I worry about the sun and automatic car washes. Has anyone used one in a similar situation or does anyone recommend another alternative? I somehow find ways to break unbreakable things so durability is a big bonus.
I am also looking for mud flaps. A buddy said that the Mopar flaps are the way to go for the custom fit. If anyone has an additional recommendation I would appreciate it.
I am in the south Denver suburbs if anyone has a recommendation on shops to work with.
Thank you for your time!

I have the Truxedo Lo Pro QT cover on my 05' Ram SWB QC and I'm very pleased with the performance and the looks so far. I routinely run through the brushless automatic washes with no problems other than very slight water leakage when the high pressure sprayers wash the tailgate area - but this probably could be eliminated as well if you wanted to use the tailgate seal that is available. It stays tight with the spring tension mechanism and lays almost completely flat but it is easy to unfold and use the entire bed if necessary. The high-end hard covers are beautiful if finished properly and they offer more security but I didn't want to be limited in the access to my bed area. There are a lot of quality choices available just make sure it fits your needs regardless of the price.
if u can swing it get the one that slides in the bed it seems mor durable at abaout 800 it better be, i just got one of the rail tonneau systems its great no snaps and u can beat on ot i payed 150 brand new but o would rathr have a slider
Bak-Flip.. I've had mine for a couple of months, and wouldn't trade it for anything!!! Keeps the water out, folds up to the cab, give you 99% of your truck bed to use, and it's a hard tonneau, so some punk kid just can't take a knife to it a ruin your day.. The install was easy, took me about 30 minutes...

Also it's a low profile cover, sits maybe an 1/8" over the bed rails:

Automatic car wash, boo!
I might be able to help you on the flaps. I might be selling mine in a few weeks, will know once I put my new wheels and tires one.

That Bak-flip looks like the way to go. They dont appear to have anyone that can install in Denver and I find ways to break unbreakable things. When you say simple, is that simple for someone who fails at Legos? The video they have makes it look easy.
Thank you all for your responses!

If you fail legos..you fail life..
I helped a buddy install his this weekend, wich accomplished two things. A) showed me how incredibly easy they are to install, b) how well made, and cool they are. I am for sure investing in one too.

I have the truxedo low pro qt as well and It's great! easy to roll up, can go through a car wash, I also had about 4 feet of snow sitting on it this winer after I got back from a trip. I thought for sure the metal bars would be bent but it still lookis perfect. really tuff thats for sure. The only problem I have had is that I got it installed in the summer so in the winter when it was 0 degrees outside the mounting brackets came loose because of the metal shrinking in the cold, but i just tightened them down and that fixed it. Also I had problems with my tailgate getting frozen closed, because the cover sits on top of the tailgate slightly to create a seal water gets built up there and in the sub zero north idaho temps we have here the tailgate gets frozen shut! It really sucks too because you cant get anything in or out of your truck. What I do if that happens is grab an empty beer growler fill it with hot water from the tap and pour it onto the top of the tailgate, and that works everytime but if your not at home its hard to find hot water or an empty beer growler
Yes, the Bak-Flip has rails on either side. You have to use 3 shims on each rail b/c our bed rails taper inward on the bottom. The rails use 3 clamps each... It's very simple, you only need 1 wrench to do the entire install. The video is exactly how it's installed... Doesn't take long at all, and I had no help... Hardest part is unpacking, they are packaged VERY well....
Spray on bedliner will not effect it, it'll install right over it with no problems, you can even install this cover with certain types of bed rails...
