CAMS
i want to put a comp cams 260 in my truck, im used to working on old pick ups where everything is easy to get to, so how hard is it to put in a cam on these trucks. is there any hints on doin it or things to watch out for, also are there any other cams out there that i should check out b4 buying this one
Heres a good step by step install guide for the HeMI cam. Its not too tough and can be done in a day if you have a little help.

there are a couple of things to look out for:
have something to tie the A/C compressor out of the way bunjie cords work well.
The fan, timing cover, water pump can all come off as an assembly, remove radiator shroud, radiator, then unbolt the front cover.
use a quality overhead valve spring compressor and have a good magnet ready to catch the retainers when they come loose. You will also most likely need an extension for your compression tester(to keep air in cylinders during Valve spring change) and a good compressor. The spark plug seats are tapered in the HEMI so the comp tester fittings with multiple threads wont thread in.

The rockers are different, one has an" I " on it, these are intake rockers, the others are exhaust. There are two different pushrod legnths, poke holes in a cardboard box to keep them in line in relation to where they came out.
Plug the oil return holes in the head to keep the retainers from dropping through. A 5/16 in bolt works well, just remember to remove them before installing the rocker covers!
Use the correct tool for removing and installing the harmonic balancer. Dont run the balancer down with the crank bolt, these are stretch bolts and can snap or gaul the threads.
as for cams, I like the KRC*210, Itc computor friendly and worth 35 HP at the wheels.

I'm doing the KRC 210 as well, but witha little custom grind for increased low end Torque. Almost as PCM friendly as the Comp 260, but better Torque AND HP numbers.
Looking at doing it around June, I blew ALL my truck mod cash on getting a Grand Cherokee Overland last November to replace my daily driver, so I have to save my pennies fora couple more months.
Either can be tamed with pretty much just a tuner. Check out the specs on the KRC cam, I'll think you'll find it's a little more bang for around the same cost...

They work pretty well. You will lose some low end, but you gain a kick in the pants above 4000 rpm. I used one of these for a while, it worked friggin awesome with a 125 hp shot of nitrous!

Wouldn't recommend the 6.1's at all for a 4x4, too much low end torque sacrificed for high rpm HP. Now, for an inexpensive upgrade in a 2WD, especially a SC, who does not tow, it would be a nice addition...
