annoying whrr sound from the engine
Hi folks,
This winter was a particularly cold one in Chicago. Unfortunately, I have to park my 2004 Dodge RAM 1500 hemiout in the driveway. Well, it's been no trouble for the past 4 years. But this winter, about4 months ago the winter in the Chicago suburbs has been uncommonly cold. As part of my routine before leaving, I would start my truck up around 5:30am and warm it up for at least 10-15 minutes before leaving. When starting, a sqeal would start and stay on for about 30 seconds to sometimes 90 seconds. Then go away. Since then, there has been a particularly annonying whrr in the engine compartment all the time now. It isn't as noticeable but I notice it nonetheless.
I was hoping someone can give me some idea what to look for in this particular case. It isn't belts slipping, because those initial loud sqeals have gone. I am not sure how to identify it as well. Any help would be appreciated! Thanks, all!

I hope this doesn't sound wishy washy, it is sort of in between. not really a high sqeal, but more like metal on metal type sound. When I am going around 50 or 60mph, i don't seem to notice it anymore...i seem to notice it a lot when idling and at low speeds. I was wondering if i should just lube any of those wheels that hold the belt or if there are any bearings or such. Or better yet, if I just needed to change my belts.....here to hoping! Thanks for the reply! and to the other as well( hope it's not the alternator or water pump) I see no change in water temparature or batter/volt readings from my gauges...
sounds more like your power steering to be honest. thats where i was going originally. will post pics of what to look for

if you have something like that, it's the power steering leaking because of a busted clamp. and without fluid in your pump. It causes whining/whrring.

I am glad you mentioned that. That isn't it. Because of the cold, i did get a busted clamp and had to reclamp the hose and add some of that stop leak power steering fluid that was recommended in these forum. Everything went fine after that. But this something else...Thanks for the thought though...
